Primary Arms Micro Green Dot Reflex Sight

This is the next review in my never ending quest for reliable yet inexpensive gear. While this is focused on the Primary Arms Green Dot Reflex Sight, I used Primary Arms mounts and rings to put this all together. As all AR-15 owners know, a rifle is never finished, it is just waiting for the next upgrade. I was looking around for optics options for one of my rifles. The main reason I was looking was because with a fixed power scope (10X), it is difficult to sight in on close range targets. My options were a new lower power scope, such as a 1-4X, or a dot sight with a magnifier. I like my scope though and want to keep it. When I came across the Primary arms reflex sight , I decided mounting this to my existing scope was the way to go.
I did the appropriate e-search and decided to go for it. I had the same concerns as many others and found that those who had purchased their sights before me were very satisfied. The reflex sight, as all of the Primary Arms products, is quite less expensive than their competitors. This has not deterred my purchasing in the past and did not again. I took a chance with my CenterPoint AR22 scope (review here:
http://hubpages.com/hub/CenterPoint-Scopes-AR22-Series) and was extremely satisfied. The PA reflex sight is no different.
As for the sight, it feels just a solid as the mounts. Feel is not everything, but you want your sight to feel like it is not going to break. I didn’t exactly slam this around or whack it with a hammer, but I am confident in the construction. It mounted up with no problems and zeroed rather nicely and was dialed in with a bore laser and fine tuned on the range. If there is one problem I have with this sight, it is the shape of the dot. While I didn’t expect it to be perfectly circular, it is more of a tear drop in shape. This is barely noticeable and has no effect on accuracy, but it is one thing I noticed.
Sighting with the reflex green dot is quick and makes transitioning from target to target a snap. There is a need for a little bit of training yourself to use it, but in a few minutes, the muscle memory of sighting and transitioning from scope to sight was developed. I am more than pleased with how quickly I can move from one target to another. The accuracy is every bit as good as I could have hoped for. Put dot on target and squeeze. Simple. What more could I ask for?
Will it hold up? As far as I can tell, this little sight will hold up for as long as I need it to and will take the moderate abuse I will give it. I don’t go out of my way to try to ruin my gear, but I expect it will withstand some bumps and drops along the way. Is it a combat ready optic, designed to withstand the harshest climates and environments in the world. I doubt it, but it is perfectly suited for my needs. Some 3 gun, some USPSA, some general fun at the range. I have no doubt that it will do just fine in all of these roles. Will it hold zero after thousands of rounds? I don’t know, but I will write an update when I get there. I can tell you that a few hundred is no problem, as it shouldn’t be. I don’t see several thousand being a problem either, I just don’t have the ammo to burn off for that right now.
There is no on/off. There is an automatic brightness adjustment that goes to the lowest setting when the cover is on. The protective cover slips over the top and has two slots on the front where you can tie it off as you see fit. Some 550 cord, lock wire, whatever you want to use to make sure you don’t lose the cover. Adjustments are done with the included screwdriver and dial. Slip the dial over the screwdriver and turn in the direction as indicated on the dial. Quite inventive really, and couldn’t be easier. Battery life is good so far. I can tell you that a battery will last at least at two days with the sight uncovered. So far, so good.
If you do any research on less expensive optics, you will hear all of them called “cheap Chinese crap”. Only one of those words is correct. This sight, like many other supposedly cheap models, is manufactured in China. I like to buy American made goods. I do buy American made goods a often as possible. However, it is not possible to produce optics like this, at this price point, here. I would like to see us all lobby our government to make it cheaper to manufacture goods here. I don’t want to go too far off course, but that is what some will call it. It’s funny though, you hear someone call a less expensive, foreign manufactured product cheap crap, and most of the time they have not even used it. Yes, it is made in China. It is a quality optic. The fact that it is manufactured in China does not change the fact that it is a solid product.
If you have doubts as to the quality of the Primary Arms Micro Green Dot reflex sight or Primary Arms mounts, let me help to put them to rest. I am extremely satisfied with this sight and the mounts I put it on. One of the best thing about the PA products is the customer service that comes with them. Marshall, who I spoke with when I ordered my gear, is quite visible on AR15.com and communicates frequently with customers through there and via e-mail. I have not had a problem with mine, but I get the impression that Marshall would be more than willing to help if an issue arose. The web site can be found here: http://www.primaryarms.com/main.sc. Take a look through it. There are a bunch of things I am in the process of saving for on there. Primary Arms has made it a little more affordable to get some of the AR toys I have been wanting. Thank you!

You never touched on accuracy and groups?
